Diet guru Michael Mosley has said there may be a reason that you have stopped losing weight suddenly despite being on a diet.
The man behind Fast 800 and the 5:2 diet has helped many people stay on top of their health. And according to Michael, it's a very common occurrence and you shouldn't give up.
Despite sticking to your routine and not changing anything, you might not see the scale go down as you hit a plateau. But what is a weight loss plateau and how you can reduce the chances of it happening? Here is what the expert has to say.
A plateau is a period of time where you suddenly stop losing weight - even if you're sticking to a strict diet and exercise plan.
It can happen for a number of different reasons. For example, at the start of your weight loss journey, you lose a lot of water weight rapidly. Once this has gone, dropping pounds is more of a gradual process.
Once the slower process stops, you can sadly end up losing motivation and going back to old habits such as eating badly. However, it's important you persevere if you want to see results.
This is normal and it's important you stay in the right frame of mind. You can do this by maintaining and building muscle mass where possible, since your metabolic rate will stay the same or increase, and you'll continue to lose weight.
Michael, who is also the author behind the popular Fast 800 Diet, is an advocate for the Mediterranean diet, which is great for maintaining muscle mass as it's rich in protein and healthy fats. You should also make sure you're exercising too with HIIT classes and resistance workouts said to be especially good for building muscle.
