A special event launched at a Doune bridal shop which allowed women to try on wedding dresses in the name of charity has raised thousands of pounds for cancer causes.
The ‘Galentines’ event was the idea of Suzette Wright at Charlotte Grace Bridal in the village and was organised in support of the Beatson Charity Cancer, which provided invaluable care and support to Suzette’s mother before her passing in 2022.
It allowed women, no matter their marital status, to come in and pick out a selection of dresses to try on, as well as enjoying some drinks and photos within the shop.
Suzette admits the demand for the event took her by surprise, with women eager to experience a very special opportunity to ‘say yes to the dress’ with a difference.
With the event now in the rear view and the money counted up, Suzette was able to hand over the sum of £1,674 to thankful representatives from the Beatson.
Suzette told the Observer: “It was really good and I’m so proud for what we managed to put on and achieve.
“It was just a privilege to meet so many wonderful women who got behind the event and supported the Beatson cause.
“I had so many ladies who had come up to me about the lovely dresses in the window and wanting to try them on, so I thought about just doing it and it was so well received in the end.
“All of the ladies that came along had such a lovely time and all had their own stories for coming along.
“Heilidh from the Beatson had kept in touch with the event on socials and said we had done a good job in promoting it all, so it was nice to hear all of the hard work was being seen and being received well.”
One of those who attended was well-known Scottish radio personality Gina McKie, who presents the afternoon show on Glasgow station Go
