A charity that supports people who have been the victim of crime needs new volunteers to help provide its vital service.
Victim Support is looking to recruit new volunteers that will make a difference to hundreds of lives.
The charity’s support workers and volunteers are available to victims of crime and witnesses in person, over the phone and in the courts.
You can access its services - which are free, independent and confidential - regardless of whether you have reported the crime or not to the police. Stephanie Simpson, co-ordinator for Victim Support West Lothian, said: “We are currently low on volunteer numbers within our West Lothian services.
“Volunteers are an essential part of our organisation, delivering much needed support to people affected by crime.
“Also, it can be a very rewarding role to those who come on board with us.
“I’ve been volunteering with Victim Support Scotland for just about two years. I was looking for an opportunity to volunteer with a progressive and creative organisation that impacts positively on people’s lives and I came across VSS.
“I found them to be incredibly friendly and supportive to volunteers. They provide a really comprehensive training programme and one to one support throughout that.
“I volunteer within Livingston Sheriff and High Court. It’s a real privilege to support both victims and witnesses of crime as they give evidence within a court setting.
“Many victims and witnesses of crime have never been in a court setting before and come with little knowledge of court procedures.
“We are there to provide information about what they may experience as well as answer any questions or concerns they may have. This can often be a really emotional and difficult time for

A church clock that has sat in darkness for almost two years has been returned to the light thanks to a community campaign Bathgate's High Church clock will be lit up once again after an investigation by parishioners and the intervention of local Labour councillor Harry Cartmill. The town clock in the tower of the High Church had been in darkness for around 18 months until the councillor convinced the council to install new lighting at a cost of almost £1,000. The clock was lit up just before Easter, in time for the merger of St John's Church in Mid Street with the High Church in Gideon Street. It will now be known as Bathgate Parish Church.
