Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden has been helping a couple, who had to bring their wedding forward due to cancer, learn how to dance for a BBC series. The 33 year old professional dancer from Wales, who found a lump in her breast just before her honeymoon, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in May 2023.
Amy sadly missed out on competing in the latest series of Strictly because of her diagnosis, but is now returning to the dance floor in the reality show Dare To Dance. In this series, she'll be teaching a Wrexham FC-loving couple who are about to tie the knot, and there will even be a guest appearance from Rob McElhenney, the creator of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, who co-owns the team with Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds.
Throughout the emotional four-part series, Amy will also meet a young woman who stopped dancing when she began to lose her sight and confidence, a firefighter with a secret passion for dance, and two friends getting ready to dance at a Windrush Day celebration. Amy shared her excitement about the return of Dare To Dance and said: "I am so delighted Dare To Dance is back.
When I dance, I feel like I can overcome anything. It's something I want more people to experience, I really believe it can change your life.
"I was never going to let my diagnosis get in the way of what I love most and I am thrilled that my wonderful dance family could step in to ensure my wonderful students blew their family and friends away with their performance." Dianne Buswell and Graziano Di Prima from Strictly, along with Dancing On Ice judge Oti Mabuse, will be joining Amy on the show too.
