A dad-of-two has tragically died just weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. Simon Atkins, 46, sadly passed away on Sunday (February 11).
The HGV driver's health had taken a turn during a family holiday in Tenerife with his wife, Sara, their kids and other family members. After returning home, he went through numerous GP appointments and spent time in hospital before a biopsy in January confirmed that he had cancer and it was spreading.
Tumours had grown on his appendix and had travelled elsewhere in his body. From Shepshed in the East Midlands, Simon met his wife, Sara, 40, when they were both working at the Packe Arms in Hoton near Loughborough.

The couple went on to have two children, Lucie who is 13 and Jacob who is 11. Speaking to LeicestershireLive, Sara, who is originally from South Africa said: "It all started at the end of October during the family holiday.
"He wasn't drinking or eating a lot and I said he needed to go and see the doctor when we got home."
His doctor thought he had a blockage in his digestive system and prescribed laxatives, but Simon continued to grow thinner and become frail. Sara said: "He was losing weight, his abdomen was swollen and he wasn't eating a lot.
"One day in December we had the heating on full blast and Simon was on the sofa, wrapped up in his army sleeping bag, wearing a hat and gloves - and I said, 'We were going to hospital'.
"At first we saw a junior doctor who was just going to prescribe more laxatives and send him home, but then another doctor said he thought it was fluid on the abdomen." Sara and Simon were told it could be a symptom of cancer - a form that the hospital saw only one case per year, on
