Police seized drugs and a safe containing £2,500 in cash after arresting a suspected dealer aged 17 in a park. The teen was said to have fled but was stopped following a chase.
The drama happened in Crowcroft Park in Levenshulme at around 11am yesterday (Wednesday) when plain-clothes cops from GMP's Operation Venture team saw someone 'acting suspiciously'. The squad of cops was launched in 2022 to tackle serious and violent crime in hotspots all across Greater Manchester.
When the suspect ran off, officers gave chase and stopped him on Gatling Avenue in nearby Longsight. A boy, 17, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, money laundering and assaulting an emergency worker. He was questioned and later released on police bail 'pending further enquiries', said the force.

GMP said it also seized drugs, cash and a 'burner phone' which was used to contact drug users. 'Burner phones' are devices purchased with no contract often used by criminals to avoid detection. The arrest prompted officers to raid a house following 'intelligence received' where they found a safe containing £2,500 cash in a bedroom, according to GMP. The cash was seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act, said the force.
Sergeant Paul Heap, from GMP’s Operation Venture team, said: "This is another example of the work we do daily in targeting criminals whilst in the act.
"Our plain clothed officers are key part of stopping crime whilst remaining undetected and is one of our main tactics with a sole focus on tackling knife and violent crime across Manchester, which drugs plays a big part in.
"We will continue to deploy to our hotspot
