Piers Morgan has called out trolls who made nasty comments about Kate Garraway following the death of her husband, Derek Draper. Derek sadly passed away in January at 56 years old after a four-year battle with long Covid. A recent documentary showed the final year of Derek's life and revealed the struggles faced by Kate and their two children as they tried to get the care Derek needed.
During the four years, Kate and Derek received the help of multiple carers, which cost a whopping £16,000.
This cost has now left Kate in debt, something she discussed in the documentary Derek's Story, which aired on Tuesday (26 March). During the last four years, Kate has been hit with a number of cruel comments as she opened up about the difficulties of caring for Derek. Some have accused the TV star of not grieving "properly" following the loss of her husband, while others accused her of "making money" from Derek's ill health.
Kate's friend, and former Good Morning Britain co-star Piers Morgan has now hit back at one of these social media trolls. Posting to X, formerly known as Twitter, the cruel troll wrote: "She claimed he had long covid when it's been proved it doesn't exist. Money making scam and nothing more.
23 documentaries and 16 books c'mon, wake up." Responding to this, Piers wrote: "I hope you never suffer what Derek suffered, you heartless f***ing moron." Piers also praised the documentary, as he wrote: "The final Kate Garraway film about her beloved Derek was heartbreaking, inspiring, and utterly maddening. Our care system is so broken, yet staffed by so many wonderful people. Let Derek's legacy be a wholesale reformation of the way we treat our sick/elderly.
