Kate Garraway has shared that she ended up in hospital due to the stress and pressure of caring for her husband Derek Draper during his health struggles.
The latest documentary showing Derek's last few weeks revealed many heartbreaking details about the former political lobbyist, Kate, and their two children's struggle to provide the care he desperately needed. Kate and her kids looked after him during his four-year health fight with the help of several carers, costing £16,000 a month.
The strain of looking after her husband Derek, who sadly passed away in January aged 56, became so overwhelming for Good Morning Britain host Kate, also 56, that she ended up in hospital as her own mental and physical health suffered because of Derek's condition and its effect on her family and children, daughter Darcey, 18, and son Billy, 15. Derek's Story, which was shown on ITV, gave viewers a glimpse into the former politician's tragic final year with his family while battling his illness.
After Derek passed away in January, Kate had to defend herself against mean trolls who accused her of not grieving 'properly' when she returned to work just weeks after her husband's death. Kate confessed that accepting Derek's passing was incredibly tough for her.
She also expressed her doubts about releasing the new documentary, but she didn't want to disappoint her supporters or Derek, who wished his story to be shared, reports the Mirror.
