A senior doctor accused of behaving sexually towards trainee firefighters during medical examinations has been cleared of wrongdoing after a panel ruled he had been a victim of 'wild gossip' when his name came up on Google.
Dr Christopher Valentine was subjected to a police and disciplinary investigation after six recruits made complaints against him. A misconduct hearing held in Manchester heard they raised the complaints after discovering he had appeared in a number of online searches over his custom of keeping semi-naked pictures of patients for 'teaching purposes'.
During the tests carried out for the unnamed fire and rescue service based in the north of England, Valentine told the candidates to strip to their underwear whilst he searched them for tattoo marks, scars or tell-tale signs of steroid abuse. He said they were needed for either for identification purposes if they were killed or badly injured in a fire or as part of routine checks for their suitability to do the job.

But he was quizzed by detectives and reported to the General Medical Council after the firefighters accused Valentine of making them feel 'uncomfortable' during the examinations. One claimed Valentine 'deliberately stumbled' into him in a 'comedy fall' so the doctor's crotch was in his face whilst another said he was called 'body beautiful'.
