But one woman has taken it a step further by refusing to meet or even speak to her husband's parents - despite being with him for 15 whole years.
The Mirror reports that she'll avoid even saying hello to them on video calls, despite her spouse continually begging her to make an effort with them.
The woman explained her reasoning on the forum Mumsnet, asking people whether she was being unreasonable or not - and most were in firm agreement that she was.
She explained in a recent post: "I have never met nor appeared on video chat with my family-in-law." Clarifying, she added that she did actually appear on video chat to say "hello" once to his mum, before disappearing.
The woman continued: "They've also witnessed me trying to pass by without being noticed, walking on my knees."
The anonymous woman claimed it hasn't been an issue in their relationship, and when her husband's parents have asked to meet her, he's always made up an excuse.
But her husband's siblings have apparently started to ask more and more why this is the case, encouraging him to let them see a picture of his wife at least - to which the woman has refused.
And now, her husband has said "it's time" to speak to them in a bid to keep his siblings from messaging about it so often, but the woman isn't keen.
