Two women broke into a neighbour's flat and poured bleach over her before repeatedly slashing her to the face and body with a knife.
Kathryn Llewelyn and Teresa Peters-Morgan wore "ghoulish" masks and remained silent during the shocking raid. As reported by Wales Online, the attack was apparently prompted by a dispute over comments made on social media.
A court heard that the victim has been left with scars to her legs, arms and face, and feels "sick" when she sees her reflection. She described how she was living in a nightmare from which she could escape, and is living a life of "fear, embarrassment and shame".
Llewelyn and Peters-Morgan - who had denied carrying out the sickening attack in Ystradgynlais in the Swansea Valley, each effectively blaming the other - were convicted at the trial. A judge described what the women did as "truly disturbing" and as a "punishment beating".
Swansea Crown Court heard that on October 31 last year the defendants had spent the night drinking together at Morgan-Peter's house in Ystradgynlais, near the city. In the early hours of the following morning they then made a series of calls to their victim to check she was at home. Some of these were silent, but in others they were "cackling with a clown-like laugh" down the line.
They broke into their victim's nearby flat shortly before 2am and found her sleeping on the settee. A bottle of bleach was thrown over the victim and then she was repeatedly slashed with a Stanley-type knife.
The court heard the alarm was raised by a neighbour who heard screams coming from the flat and then saw the woman running outside still wearing her pyjamas. The victim would later describe how she was slipping on a mixture of bleach and her own blood as she

Naveen Kumar A posh country estate where half a dozen lovers unveil their infidelities is the setting of “The Cottage,” which opened at Broadway’s Helen Hayes Theater tonight. Set in 1923, this comedy of manners by the playwright Sandy Ruskin is so thoroughly old-fashioned that it may come as a surprise it’s not based — like so many Broadway outings lately are — on existing material. Which is not to say that any part of it feels original. This is a paint-by-numbers sex farce, with parameters that do not extend beyond the obvious: heterosexual marriage is restrictive for all, unreasonable for many, and, oh, so thrilling to transgress. The forbidden-fruit pleasures that “The Cottage” tries to pass off as a feast, in a lavish production directed by Jason Alexander, are familiar, superficial and fleeting.
