Since joining United in the summer of 2021, the French defender has played well on the whole despite the club's rollercoaster form during his stint. However, Varane's injury record has become a worrying trend and has often stopped him from having a consistent run in the team.
These factors mean his future at Old Trafford is in doubt. His contract expires at the end of the season and Erik ten Hag has an option to extend it but he has yet to trigger it.

Instead, Varane finds himself in limbo as he waits for United to make up their mind whether to keep him or not. Cole tried to offer some clarity to the defender on what the club is weighing up at this stage.
"It will be very interesting to see what happens this summer in regards to centre-backs," he said. "Varane has won everything in the game and he’s been a top-level centre-half for many years, but the only problem with him is his injury record.
"However, when he’s on form he makes the game look easy, so his only issue is keeping himself fit. Ultimately, Manchester United are going to make decisions on where they can save money and where they can try and bring players in when you consider FFP, which is a big thing now.
