So it’s officially Christmas I suppose. As the laws of advertising dictate we must all now get into the spirit as John Lewis have released their annual festive advert.
This year it tells the story of a little boy who grows a giant venus flytrap - a bit like the one in Little Shop of Horrors. Except this one isn’t a murderous maneater. Although it does give a funny look to a pomeranian. And there’s no sadist dentist involved - so it’s an inferior product in my eyes.
If you’re wondering about the accompanying soundtrack, you might be disappointed. Instead of the usual dreamy, fay, cover/assassination of a classic song, John Lewis have instead used an original piece of music.
‘Festa’ has been composed for the campaign by Italian electro-pop duo Le Feste Antonacci and is performed by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. Shame really. I had hoped to hear a free-spirited woman with bare feet singing Ace of Spades by Motorhead in a willowy voice. But there’s always next year.
