The incredible journey of young darts sensation Luke Littler has left the nation in awe. The 16-year-old, now preparing to compete in the semi-final of the PDC World Darts Championships, has become the youngest player to reach the final four, managing to defeat a five-time world champion in the process.
Known as a 'quiet' and 'down to earth lad,' Luke was born in Warrington and trained at the St Helens Darts Academy. Those associated with the academy have witnessed his rapid rise to success.
Karl Holden, who runs the academy and the St Helens Darts shop, told the ECHO: “He’s really down to earth. He’s dead relaxed and doesn’t always talk to you about darts.”

Karl, who has worked with fellow darts players Dave Chisnall and Michael Smith, was certain of Luke’s talent in his early days at the academy. He said: “People like him are so easy to work with, you only have to ask them to change one or two things. Luke’s self-trained himself.
“He’s at that level where we don't get involved with him as much. He's got the willingness to win. After this tournament is over, there'll be a few players who will fear facing him.”
On whether Luke’s success will encourage more people in the town to take up darts, Karl said: “It's already started. We’ve had loads of people coming into the shop and had enquiries online, saying ‘can my son start coming, can my daughter start coming. We’ve got our hands full.”
David Brown, 44, first met Luke a few years ago when his children were also in the academy. He said: “My children played in the darts academy along with Luke and older brother Leon. Over time I got to know his dad Anthony.
