Peacock announced on Friday that The Exorcist: Believer, the first in a new trilogy of films based on the 1973 horror classic, The Exorcist, will debut exclusively on the platform on December 1st, there joining titles like The Black Phone and Five Nights at Freddy’s, among many others.
Hailing from Universal and Blumhouse, Believer introducers viewers to Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom, Jr.), who, since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, has raised their daughter Angela (Lidya Jewett) on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum) disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.
Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn reprises her role as MacNeil, the woman forever altered by the possession of her daughter Regan five decades earlier, with Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), Jennifer Nettles (Harriet) and Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse/Verdon) rounding out the ensemble. Upon the film’s October release, it went on to gross over $133 million worldwide.
Pic’s director is David Gordon Green, who previously put his stamp on another iconic horror franchise in Halloween. Green penned the script with Peter Sattler, from a story by Scott Teems, Danny McBride and Green, which was based on characters created by William Peter Blatty. Producers included Jason Blum for Blumhouse and David Robinson and James G. Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment. Exec producers are McBride, Green, Stephanie Allain, Ryan Turek and Atilla Yücer.

Naman Ramachandran Ena Sendijarević’s “Sweet Dreams,” Netherlands’ submission in the Academy Awards international feature category, has secured North American distribution via Dekanalog. Margot Robbie revealed Tuesday that one of the producers for the film “Oppenheimer” once tried to convince her to push the release date of ‘Barbie” back. “One of your producers, Chuck Roven, called me, because we worked together on some other projects.
