The big developments that will change the face of Manchester in 2024

Manchester's development boom, which has seen the city's skyline transformed in under 20 years, showed no signs of slowing down in 2023. It's the same story for 2024.
There are a swathe of new projects coming to the city centre which are going to alter its silhouette at sunset once more. While some are nearing completion, many more get going in earnest in the next 12 months.
Set to open this year is Co-op Live, the UK's largest indoor arena with 23,500 seats, next to the Etihad Stadium. Nearby, new workspaces will open at Piccadilly East, and, on the other side of town, a primary school will open on Crown Street.

Looking into the future, building will start on thousands of new homes in the Victoria North project, there's a trio of investment in science projects on Oxford Road, and, after a long wait, the new design for Piccadilly Gardens is set to be unveiled.

The £365m indoor arena being built in the shadow of Manchester City's Etihad Stadium was originally supposed to open in 2022, but the project has been delayed on several occasions. The 23,500-capacity arena - which is set to become the largest of its kind in the UK - has been backed by pop star Harry Styles, who was announced as an investor in October 2020.
Earlier this year, the team behind Co-op Live revealed that the opening date of December would have to be pushed back. The arena is now expected to open its doors in April 2024. Huge stars from across the world have already announced
