Susanna Reid close to tears as she reads out Kate Garraway's heartbreaking message after Derek's death

Susanna Reid was close to tears as she read out a special message from Kate Garraway to her fans, thanking them for their support after the sad death of her husband, Derek Draper. Derek, 56, was critically ill after suffering a heart attack over the festive period, brought on after he suffered with complications from Covid-19 for the past three years.
In a statement announcing his death on Friday, 5 January, Kate revealed she and the children she shares with Derek, daughter Darcey, 17, and son William, 14, were there with him in his final moments. On Monday, 8 January, Susanna and her GMB co-presenter Richard Madeley addressed Derek's death on the ITV breakfast show.
At the start of the show, Susanna told viewers: "Good morning everybody. On Friday, Kate revealed the heartbreaking news that her husband Derek Draper had died due to complications from Covid, four years after becoming ill." Richard also said: "In his final moments, Darcy and Billy got to say their goodbyes to their father and Kate as always was by Derek's side and, as always, was holding his hand.
This morning, our thoughts and love go out to all of them." Susanna shared that Kate Garraway had sent a touching email to their viewers.
In it, Kate wrote: "Hello everyone, thank you so much for all the wonderful messages you have sent me. It really does mean so much to me, Darcey, Billy and all of Derek's family.
They are an extraordinary comfort and I am so lucky to feel connected to you all through these messages at this time when the raw pain of grief can be so isolating." "And that is a wonderful thing about our Good Morning Britain family.
