Kate Garraway has shared a message with her Good Morning Britain co-stars days after confirming the death of her beloved husband Derek Draper. There was an outpouring of love and support for the presenter on Friday (January 5) when she confirmed Derek had died almost four years after his life changed after contracting coronavirus.
The 56-year-old was a former Labour lobbyist-turned-psychotherapist. and became ill with the virus at the start of the pandemic in March 2020. He was taken to hospital where he was put in an induced coma. He spent just over a year in hospital before returning home to Kate and their children - Darcy and Billy - in April 2021.
He needed round-the-clock care ever since due to the damaging effects the virus had on his body, which Kate said had affected him 'from the top of his head to the tips of his toes'. However, she explained how Derek had suffered a cardiac arrest in early December which, she said, "because of the damage inflicted by Covid in March 2020, led to further complications."

Kate continued: "Derek was surrounded by his family in his final days and I was by his side holding his hand throughout the last long hours and when he passed. I have so much more to say, and of course I will do so in due course, but for now I just want to thank all the medical teams who fought so hard to save him and to make his final moments as comfortable and dignified as possible."
