Kate Garraway is said to be "broken" after the loss of her husband Derek Draper, which she announced on January 3.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 56, has been on an incredibly difficult journey looking after her husband and the father of her two children Darcey, 17, and Billy, 14, ever since he contracted Covid-19 in March 2020. While former political lobbyist Derek went through ups and downs throughout his medical recovery, he sadly died in hospital on January 3 at the age of 56, after suffering a heart attack before Christmas.
As mum-of-two Kate comes to terms with her husband's death, one of the star's close friends, weather presenter Clare Nasir, has revealed that her loyal friends are "on a rota to take care of her". The group are said to be taking turns to make sure that they are doing everything in their power to support and help Kate during her hour of need.
Speaking to Closer magazine, Clare shared: "She's devastated, she's broken. "She's going from moments of real reflectiveness to moments where she's just crying because she's been fighting for the right for Derek to live for four years now." The TV star's pal went on to say that Kate's friends are "tag-teaming" and making sure they stick with a rota to be with her.
"The other weekend there was a lot of making tea and cooking," she explained. "We managed to play a couple of little games with the kids to add a little light.
"Kate waxed and waned - It's just so sad to see, she's just broken." Clare then added that the group understood how important it was to look after Kate in the aftermath of her loss because she was left absolutely "exhausted" and had been fighting for Derek to live until his "very last moment". Kate is focused on processing Derek's death
