The Met Office has issued a rare red weather warning ahead of Storm Babet hitting the UK - with rain forecast to fall across Greater Manchester tonight.
The red warning for showers has been issued for parts of the east of Scotland from 6pm tomorrow (Thursday) to midday on Friday. In the area covered by the warning, the storm is set to bring 'exceptional rainfall and impactful wind' which could cause a 'danger to life'.
The Met Office has also issued a number of yellow and amber warnings for rain and wind in Scotland and England from Thursday to Saturday with flooding expected. A 36-hour yellow weather warning for rain has been issued covering parts of Greater Manchester, which will be in place from 6pm on Thursday to 6am on Saturday.

Forecasters predict heavy rain will fall from around 11pm tonight for a number of hours, with a wet start expected tomorrow morning. More light rain is forecast for Greater Manchester throughout the days on Thursday and Friday, though this is not expected to be as heavy as in other parts of the UK.
On the rare red warning issued in Scotland, Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly said: "Confidence has increased in the chances of considerable impacts from rainfall in parts of the east of Scotland from Storm Babet, which has resulted in the escalation to the Red warning.
"100-150mm of rain is expected to fall quite widely within the warning period, with some locations likely to see 200-250mm, which is expected to cause considerable impacts with flooding likely."
