Pep Guardiola responds to Kalvin Phillips claim about Man City minutes

Pep Guardiola did not rule out a January exit for Kalvin Phillips as the Manchester City player considers his options ahead of Euro 2024.
Phillips has barely started for the Blues since his move from Leeds in the summer of 2022 and only played in one of the three games that Rodri was unavailable to play in. Gareth Southgate has continued to select Phillips in his England squad and the midfielder started in the 3-1 win over Italy that confirmed their qualification for next year's tournament, yet the manager and player have spoken about the need for Phillips to be getting regular minutes.
Speaking on Tuesday night, Phillips said: "I want to play football and want to play as much as possible. Over the last year-and-a-half I haven't been able to do that due to injuries and [other factors]. It's something I am going to have to think about. Hopefully my chance does come but if it doesn't then I will have to make other decisions as well."

Guardiola suggested that there are situations where Phillips is ideally suited to fit into the City side, although in others there are players in front of him. The Blues boss left a possibility open for Phillips to leave in January if he wants to and can find a move.
"The transfer window is over, now we are here together. When we need a game with transitions or games with something with chaos Kalvin is perfect," he said.
"When there is something you need to do, there are still one or two players who can do it better. That's the simple reason. He will be here until winter. After, I don't know what will happen because nobody knows once the window is open.
