Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton has backed Kieran McKenna to one day return to Manchester United thanks to his brilliant spell at Ipswich Town.
McKenna left Old Trafford in December 2021 after spending more than three years on the senior coaching staff. The 37-year-old was initially brought into the United first team set-up by Jose Mourinho but was kept on by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
After the Norwegian was fired, McKenna soon made the decision to branch out and take up his first managerial job at Ipswich, replacing Paul Cook. The decision proved to be a successful one as he led the Tractor Boys back to the Championship last season as runners-up to Plymouth Argyle.

Such work has not gone unnoticed by Sutton, who is a legend at Ipswich's arch-rivals Norwich City. He praised McKenna on a recent episode of the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast.
When asked about the managers to watch, Sutton namechecked McKenna. "At number three, Kieran McKenna," he said.
"I’m a Norwich fan, but there’s a begrudging admiration for the job he’s done. Promoted last season, they’ve been flying this season, but they may be lucky to hang onto him because bigger clubs may be looking and thinking they want a piece of him.
"He could be back there [United] one day, he could be back there."
Sutton hasn't been afraid to laud the work McKenna has done at Ipswich, telling the Daily Mail last month: "There's still a long way to go but that's a hell of a job Kieran
