Diogo Dalot admitted Manchester United's performance against Wigan on Monday night was 'not perfect' after they squandered a whole host of chances in their 2-0 victory.
United crashed out of Europe before Christmas, they have exited the Carabao Cup and currently sit eighth in the Premier League, which means the FA Cup is the only option for silverware this term.
Erik ten Hag won the Carabao Cup in his first year in charge and Manchester City denied the Dutchman a domestic cup double when defeating United in the FA Cup final at Wembley. Dalot spoke to MUTV after that win and said: "We did a very professional performance, not perfect, otherwise, we would have scored more goals.
"We know this was the first step for us to go to Wembley, which is where we want to be at the end of the season. We did it last year and we know how special this competition is.
"We want to win it and today we had the first step with a tough game, always this type of game is difficult if you don't approach it right and do the right things, but we did it today.
"I think we showed character and we're happy. Winning games gives you confidence to go to the next games and we have a tough game now on Sunday [against Tottenham]. It's important for us, so hopefully that gives us some momentum this weekend."
United will play either Newport County or Eastleigh away from home in the FA Cup fourth round.
