Manchester United's hopes of signing Cody Gakpo have been handed a boost after PSV failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Erik ten Hag has signed Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez this summer, but the Manchester Evening News understands the Dutchman is keen on strengthening his attacking options before the transfer window shuts.
United are expected to make another bid for Ajax winger Antony, 22, while Gakpo, 23, remains on the club's shortlist. Antony is naturally a right-winger and Gakpo plays on the left-wing, but it's thought the PSV man has the quality to play down the middle.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial are the only recognised strikers at United and Gakpo has the potential to develop into a centre-forward under Ten Hag. Gakpo, who stands at 6ft 1ins, contributed 21 goals and 15 assists at PSV last season.
Gakpo recently admitted he would be more likely to leave PSV if they failed to make it into the Champions League: "We must first focus on and try to make it to the Champions League. Then it is more likely that I will stay. I don't think I have said anywhere that I am leaving, so there is definitely a chance that I will stay."
PSV played Rangers in the second leg of the Champions League play-off on Wednesday night and they were defeated 1-0 by the Scottish club. Gakpo captained PSV in the second half of the match.
It is understood that Gakpo is more likely to leave PSV this summer after they failed to qualify for the Champions League. Gakpo is contracted at PSV until the summer of 2026.
