From mid-November, Drivers who break the MTCs will be fined £70 which will be reduced to £35 if it is paid within 21 days, however, if the fine hasn’t been paid in 28 days, it will rise to £105.
Drivers will be fined for making illegal right or left turns, and those who block yellow boxes at junctions, through the use of ANPR (automatic number-plate recognition).
The new enforcements are expected to come into play on Monday, November 20 with more information on future junctions and roads to be rolled out throughout 2024.
Manchester Council say the new measures will help make roads safer for those walking or cycling, Reduce congestion, improve journey times, improve air quality, and increase safety and clean air around schools.
The first location enforcement will take place in Stockport Road junction with Dickinson Road and Stanley Grove in Longsight.
Two turns have been banned at this location – right turns from Stockport Road into Dickenson Road and right turns from Stockport Road into Stanley Grove. A yellow box at the junction has also been implemented to prevent traffic snarling up and preventing passage through the Longsight district centre.
