The 26-year-old travelled with the squad to London but failed a fitness test on Saturday morning. United manager Erik ten Hag selected a 22-man squad for the journey, which indicated there was a fitness issue.
Rashford's absence comes a day after Ten Hag branded his decision to attend a birthday party on Sunday evening as "unacceptable". United lost 3-0 at home to Manchester City hours earlier and Rashford's removal was cheered by a section of the crowd at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag upbraided Rashford and suggested he had meted out an unspecified punishment. "Yes, I am aware of it, I spoke with him about it. It's unacceptable. I told him. He apologised and that's it. For the rest, it's an internal matter."
Ten Hag refused to clarify if Rashford had been fined.
Rashford was named as a substitute for the League Cup elimination by Newcastle United on Wednesday but Ten Hag clarified his bench role was rotational and not punishment.
