How would you describe Manchester to someone who had, somehow, never heard of it?
You could refer to elements of its history such as the industrial revolution, or its hefty cultural impact through bands like The Smiths, Oasis, or any one of the huge number of genre-defining artists that have called Manchester home. But, having just moved to the city, I'm not quite sure these things alone do justice to what the city has become in 2024.
Perhaps, in a post-pandemic era, it's the relentless innovation that defines the city. But I think the special magic of Manchester, which made me move here in the first place, is its willingness to change with the times while unashamedly wearing its history on every logo and sticker emblazoned with the hard-working Mancunian bee.

This question of how you define the city, has stuck out to me this past month. When I was younger, my main association was with the heady hangovers after going to Warehouse Project, or the buzz of the Arndale Centre on a Saturday afternoon - but the true story of the city is so much more elusive.
