Bradley Walsh didn't win any popularity contests with fans during Wednesday's episode of The Chase on 24 January. Viewers of the show were left swearing as they felt he was encouraging contestants to take lower offers, even when there was a lot of money at stake.
In the episode, brave contestant Dylan had successfully bagged £59,000 for the team. However, when Sonia from the Wirral was given minus £5,000 as her low offer, some viewers claimed Brad was persuading players to reduce the prize fund.
This annoyed some fans who felt this behaviour discouraged people from aiming high.
One viewer went on a very sweary rant, venting: "STOP ENCOURAGING MINUS OFFERS AFTER A HIGH OFFER.
This is (partly) why hardly any f**ker goes high #thechase," while another agreed: "No wonder no one ever goes high when Brad talks people into taking the minus offer." The complaints came after Sonia seemed unsure about which offer to take. She told Brad: "I always said I'd never take a minus offer you know," which led to Brad offering some advice.
Sonia did ask her teammates for their thoughts and they all agreed that it wouldn't be shameful if she chose the smaller offer. Dylan said: "Up to you really, minus £5k might be good tactics as well, you did really well." Martin shared with his co-star Brad: "It's about bodies back so 3 or the minus 5 yeah," which Brad agreed with, adding: "Absolutely, lets face the table.
Minus £5k, £3k and £70k." Sonia seemed unsure about what to do and didn't want to take the lower amount.
To that, Brad told her: "Yeah, but there was never going to be £61,000 in the prize fund at that point was there, what do you want to do?" After hearing the advice, Sonia gave her answer. She said: "I might go for the minus £5 please
