From his wife who he met on the set of the BBC show to his secret health struggle and beyond, get to know the Casualty icon a bit better below. Derek Thompson's wife and sons Derek has been married to actress Dee Sadler since 1989 after they met on the set of Casualty. One year after the show started, Dee joined the cast in a minor role – playing Maggie, who needed rescuing from a cave before being hospitalised.
Dee is perhaps best known for playing Tracy Crabtree in No Place Like home from 1983 to 1987 and also appeared in an episode of Doctor Who in 1988. The pair share a son called Charlie, but Derek insists his son was not named after his on-screen persona. He has previously said: "Dee is the love of my life.
We've been together for 24 years now and we have a son called Charlie. And, no, we didn't name him after my character in Casualty!" Prior to his marriage to Dee, Derek was married to his first wife Christine from 1967 to 1978.
The former couple also share a son, but not much is known about his identity. Secret health battle Derek discovered he had dystonia in 2010 at the age of 61.
