They say that with the departure of Charlie Fairhead star, Derek Thompson, after 38 years, Barney is 'set to replace' him. "Casualty are looking towards Barney, now that Charlie is gone," the source exclusively told OK! "Barney could be the next star of the show." After almost four decades on the show, Derek’s final scenes as Charlie were aired on Saturday, 16 March after his character was stabbed by a patient (played by Hollyoaks actor Angus Castle-Doughty).
Thankfully, Charlie was discovered by friend Stevie Nash who had to fight to save his life – and to everyone’s surprise, she did.
The incident however did prompt Charlie to hang up his nurse’s uniform.
