A student heading to Scotland to study was left 'devastated' after her accommodation fell through at the last minute.
Letizia Torri, 21, from Borgo Ticino in Italy, is completing her final year at university in Edinburgh but just one week before her term starts she was told this week, on Tuesday, September 5, that the room she was supposed to move into was no longer available.
This was despite Letiza having shared video calls with the current tenants and making plans to go out for dinner with them when she arrived, reports Edinburgh Live.
Letizia, explained: "It was all super last minute. I started looking in June but couldn't see anything for students. Everyone kept telling me to wait for August but now everything has gone.
"I had a girl message me to tell me they had a spare room coming up because the person living there was moving out. It all sounded official, they told me she was 'looking forward' to moving out, and we had talked about dinner plans and things when I got there.
"It was difficult because I'm in Italy, we did a video call a few times, and showed me the flat and I could see boxes everywhere. But they didn't give me a date when the other girl was moving out. I kept messaging her, because it was not like I could just go over the next day. I need to book a flight and actually move to a different country.
"Then on Tuesday, she messaged me saying 'Sorry, she isn't moving out.'. She didn't get the house, so now I can't move in. And I know it's not their fault, it's the housing crisis, and I should have had a back-up plan, maybe looked for something more official."
The business studies student added: "I'm devastated. I've been left with nothing. Things are getting more and more expensive, flights are already over
