The painstaking demolition of homes wrecked in a devastating blast has continued today. Families on Nelson Street, in Bury, saw their worlds turn upside down following an explosion on Wednesday (February 28).
Three houses are coming down 'brick-by-brick' after being irreparably damaged. Demolition work began yesterday (Friday) and bulldozers have been at work again today.
A woman in her 70s was rushed to hospital in a serious condition after the explosion. Residents were evacuated from the area, but most have since been allowed to return.

For those whose homes are coming down, their lives will never be the same. Mushtaq Anwar was among those watching on in the rain as bulldozers closed in yesterday.
He witnessed demolition begin on his end-of-terrace home, which held the memories of his three children growing up. Mushtaq had been at home with his wife, 21-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son when the blast ripped through his neighbour's home.
As bricks collapsed around them, they feared they were going to die. "We are worried about a lot of things," he said yesterday.
"All our assets, everything is inside... we need accommodation, we can't stay like this forever." Mushtaq, who works as a taxi driver, also lost his car as it became crushed by bricks.
Demolition works are expected to continue into next week. A joint investigation into the cause of the explosion is being carried out by Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, Bury Council and Cadent Gas.
