Newcastle United have been handed an apparent injury boost ahead of their weekend FA Cup clash with Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola's side welcome the Magpies to the Etihad on Saturday evening for a quarter-final tie. City have been rocked by an injury to star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne but Newcastle have been handed a fillip with Anthony Gordon potentially available.
The forward went off in their defeat to Chelsea on Monday night with his manager Eddie Howe initially concerned. But his knee injury is not as bad as first feared.
And the 23-year-old's inclusion in Gareth Southgate's England squad on Thursday afternoon suggests he is fit. The Three Lions play Brazil and Belgium in friendlies and Gordon is in line to feature.

It remains to be seen whether the former Everton man is included by his club to face City this weekend but with the FA Cup representing Newcastle's last chance of silverware this season, as well as a potentially needed route back into Europe, Howe will surely call on Gordon if he is fit.
The frontman has enjoyed a stellar campaign in the north east, notching 10 goals and his form has not gone unnoticed by Southgate.
“Consistently good performances. He was very close in November and he’s continued his form,” the England boss said. “He is scoring, his work for the team is excellent and he competes, so I really like his attitude.”
