The treatment of Manchester United fans at Galatasaray's Rams Park Stadium has been highlighted in an extensive police survey looking at the experiences of English fans abroad since 2020.
United travelled to Istanbul to face Galatasaray for their penultimate Champions League group match on November 29 and supporters encountered various problems. There were huge queues for a limited number of turnstiles in use, concerns about overcrowding in tight spaces and a lack of help from stewards or local police. Those factors meant many fans missed the game kicking off, with some entering the ground 30 minutes into the first half.
Poor treatment continued after the final whistle as the travelling fans were held back for as long as 80 minutes, meaning they missed transport away from the stadium. With public transport unavailable, many supporters were left to pay over the odds for taxis while others felt unsafe in an unknown area miles away from where they were staying.

UEFA have received criticism for lack of organisation at Champions League fixtures, namely their handling of the 2022 and 2023 finals when Liverpool and Manchester City fans were mistreated. A European away fan survey was recently commissioned by the head of UK football policing, Mark Roberts, and it sought opinions of fan groups from most English clubs.
The Manchester United Supporters Trust were consulted for the survey and November's trip to Galatasaray was rated as 'poor' for safety, security and services in their response.
