Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has admitted what he must do to become the Reds' manager in the next ten years.
Through his own admission, it has been a difficult start to managerial life for the 38-year-old since he retired from football. His first job at Derby County presented a unique challenge due to the financial woes which plagued the Rams.
After battling hard to avoid the drop, Derby were relegated and Rooney left to explore a new opportunity at MLS club D.C. United. The legendary forward's stint in the US was not magnificent, but presented him with the chance to return to England and manage Birmingham City who were in the Championship play-off places.

However, the 38-year-old was sacked after just 15 matches in January with just two wins to his name. Reflecting on his time at St Andrew's, Rooney told BBC's Match of the Day: "I wouldn’t say that [it was the right job at the wrong time].
"Maybe the timing of when I went in when John Eustace was doing well as I’ve said before, I don’t think the fans ever accepted me from day one and just disappointed I didn’t get to the transfer window because myself and the owners said we had to bring players in, and to not have the opportunity to do that was my only disappointment." While Rooney admits his CV does not warrant him to be in the conversation for the next United manager after Erik ten Hag, the 38-year-old knows what he needs to do to get there.
"That’s where you want to get to, United, Everton, all of these big jobs," he explained. "You want to try and do it but it’s a process and I have to try and go through the steps of getting myself back on track
