Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag admits close friends attempted to talk him out of taking the top job at Old Trafford - but the Dutchman told them he was ready to embrace the challenge.
Ten Hag headed to United from Ajax last summer after winning three Eredivisie titles in four and a half years with the Dutch giants. He enjoyed a successful first season at United, too, but has encountered some tough challenges since the restart both on and off the pitch.
United, who won the Carabao Cup and finished third in the Premier League under his watch last term, got back to winning ways against Chelsea on Wednesday night. It marked the end of a testing few days for the Dutchman and during which time his position has been questioned.

Ten Hag insisted there are no issues behind the scenes, though, as he outlines what made him take up the role as United manager in the first place, despite one or two question marks from those close to him. Ten Hag spoke in an interview with the United We Stand fanzine.
The 53-year-old said: "Everyone was telling me; 'You can't succeed in that job'. They said it was impossible.
"Me? I wanted the challenge."
Ten Hag added: "I knew it wouldn't be easy, but it was such a great club with such a great fanbase. People [either] love Man United or they are against Man United. I like clubs like this. Ajax was like this."
