A five-star luxury getaway turned into a holiday from hell for one couple who witnessed a body covered in a sheet, people having sex in public and guests vomiting and defecating in the hotel swimming pool.
The couple claim the nightmare 17-day trip to the Dominican Republic at the end of June left them in tears.
NHS healthcare assistant Alan, from Hull, said he had booked the getaway at the Riu Republica Hotel in Punta Cana for his wife's birthday but the celebration quickly turned into a nightmare.
Hull Live reports that despite paying almost £3,000 for the holiday, TUI responded to a complaint offering the couple counselling sessions and a £200 voucher.
TUI said the issues were largely "outside of our control". The chain that owns the hotel failed to respond to repeated requests for comment.
On TUI's website, the hotel is described as a five-star resort offering an "on-the-beach location and a first-class pool scene" but the couple started to experience problems as soon as they arrived in late June.
Alan, 50, said the resort was like a "party hotel", rife with people taking drugs, guests having sex in the pool and what he claimed was a worrying lack of security.
The couple claim to have witnessed the body of a guest hidden under a sheet after a woman fell from a fourth-floor hotel balcony. Dominican Today reported the death on June 30.
When Alan complained to his TUI rep, the claims to be met they acted with complete indifference.
He said: "I've spent tens of thousands on holidays with TUI in the past, so to be offered only £200 and some counselling for what was truly a horrific holiday is a joke. It's really disheartening, because this was the first time with TUI that we've been treated like this.

Match Me! Shepherding them are 30 producers hailing from the length and breadth of Europe, plus Taiwan and the Dominican Republic, in town for the three-day event, kicking off Friday. Set up at mainly young-ish production houses, they underscore major trends now coursing through European cinema: the rise of genre and animation – such as Christophe Reveille’s “To Live and Die with Che Guevara” an animated doc feature about three guerrillas who pledged allegiance to Che Guevara – as well as films of large artistic ambition made on contained budgets, such as Taiwan’s “Goodbye North, Goodbye.” Above all, there’s a gathering shift from straight-arrow arthouse drama to genre-bending thrillers that nevertheless maintain art pics’ traditional social issue focus.
