A retired doctor has spoken of her "nightmare" Edinburgh Fringe lodger who was arrested after allegedly assaulting her during a boozed-up altercation.
Elaine has welcomed guests into her spacious Morningside property during the festival period for several years without any issues. However, she now says she’ll never do so again after claiming that a woman who had been staying in her spare room "attacked" her, reports Edinburgh Live.
Elaine says that the lodger – who only lived in the flat for a matter of days – repeatedly crossed boundaries set between the pair. She alleges that the woman drank excessively and banged on the door at 4am in search of more alcohol.
Elaine eventually decided to tell the woman to leave her home but the guest allegedly reacted to the news by running downstairs to buy a bottle of wine, and downed it in minutes. This was enough for the shocked homeowner to phone the police.
Elaine alleges that she was ‘”grabbed’ and “attacked” by the woman after she made the call. The guest was arrested by officers and later released without charge.
Elaine said: “It really has been a nightmare. I have space in my flat and I love the Fringe – this is my 30th year enjoying as many shows as I can. I want other people to enjoy it so I rent my spare room out at a reasonable price.
‘This woman seemed straightforward. Everything was going fine, she paid the deposit and all seemed okay. The first warning sign was that she kept moaning about her sore tooth. She was banging on my door at 4am, saying she needed vodka to numb the pain. I confiscated the vodka and we agreed
