Paul's death, aged 46, was publicly announced on Friday, 6 April, and the devastating news came just weeks after S Club 7 declared that they would be doing a reunion tour to celebrate 25 years since they stormed the pop charts. The countrywide tour will still be going ahead, but only Jo O'Meara, Jon Lee, Rachel Stevens, Bradley McIntosh and Tina Barrett will be doing it, as S Club, rather than S Club 7. Hannah Spearritt will not be joining them, as she deals with the grief of losing Paul, who she dated on and off for years prior to his death.
Now, four months on from Paul's passing, Rachel, Jo, Bradley, Jon and Tina have opened up on their devastation at his death, as Jon revealed that he called Paul numerous times, not realising that he had already passed away. "We’d done a Zoom call with him, all of us, on the Monday. Then our management had messaged him a few times and it hadn’t shown that it’d been read on WhatsApp," Jon told The Sun. "So it was like, ‘Is he all right?’ But then it was like, ‘Yeah it’s Paul.
You know, sometimes he doesn’t answer his phone’." He said that "everyone was trying to get hold of him [Paul]," but that they were unable to. Recalling the shock at receiving the news of their beloved bandmate and friend's death, Jo O'Meara described it as "like someone had punched me in the stomach," whilst Tina Barrett said: "At first I was just like, ‘This isn’t real . .
. it can’t be real. You’ve made a mistake’." Weeks after Paul's death, Dorset Police confirmed that he died from 'natural causes'.
