Thousands of homes across Tameside were left without electricity following a power cut this morning.
More than 2,800 properties were affected after electrical wiring caught fire in Arundel Street, Mossley, today (Monday). The blaze, which was the result of a faulty underground cable, also caused damage to a section of pavement on the street.
Firefighters and engineers from Electricity North West attended the scene and a cordon was put in place. Power has since been restored to all of the impacted properties.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 8:15am this morning (Monday 8 April) we received a report about a fire involving electrical wiring on Arundel Street, Mossley, which had damaged a section of pavement.
“A crew from Mossley fire station quickly arrived at the scene, where firefighters established a cordon around the affected area and worked alongside colleagues from Electricity North West and Cadent Gas to make the area safe.
“The crew was in attendance for just under an hour."
A spokesperson for Electricity North West added: "This morning at 1am, we received reports of a power cut affecting 2,871 properties due to a fault with an underground electricity cable.
"Utilising our automatic restoration systems, power was restored to 1,292 properties within two minutes. A further 1,400 properties were restored 20 minutes later and the final few properties were restored later that morning after a repair was made."
