An award-winning pub in Cheshire has retained its title of 'Pub of the Year' for the second year running. The Lodge Inn, a quaint pub in the town of Alsager, has won the CAMRA award thanks to its owners Sarah and Carl Smith.

A Manchester publishing house has been recognised as the best small press in the North at a prestigious book awards.
The British Book Awards 2024 Small Press of the Year awards celebrates the independent presses delivering ‘imaginative, forward-looking and diverse publishing’. Selected by a panel of judges, nine regional winners have been chosen by a panel of judges.
Manchester’s Fly on the Wall Press has won the award for the North of England. Already a previous five-time finalist of the awards, the small press specialises in political fiction as well as poetry and anthologies addressing urgent global concerns.

Described as being ‘a publisher with a conscience’, books released by Fly on the Wall since its inception in 2018 include Lying Perfectly Still by Laura Fish, The Soul We Share by Ricky Ray, and And I Will Make of You a Vowel Sound by Morag Anderson.
Speaking about their nomination last month, Fly on the Wall founder Isabelle Kenyon posted on social media: “As the fifth year of Fly on the Wall Press closes, we celebrate our fifth regional and country finalist in the British Book Awards!
“This award recognises the resilience and elbow-grease required to run Fly on the Wall as a one woman press and celebrates our pride: independent and unfunded, with a 2023 revenue growth of 33%, and a 2023 Manchester People’s Choice Culture Award finalist! We work hard to develop audiences for debut, working class authors, as well as running an outreach educational programme to demystify publishing – this award recognises the quality of our output on a national scale.”
