One of the biggest bugbears when it comes to watching a show at the theatre can be the person sitting next to you who decides to to check their Facebook feed just as you find yourself drawn into the action taking place on stage.
But an immersive play, which won’t be held at a theatre at all, is actively encouraging people to use their phones midway through the show or go and order themselves a drink.
Following a sell-out run at the Greater Manchester Fringe earlier this year, The Death of the English Pub will be held at the Tallyrand pub in Levenshulme on August 17.

Written by and starring Reece Hallam, alongside actors Ross Thompson and Ward J. Harries, the show tells the story of three friends as they have one final drink in their local boozer before it closes for good.
Creator Reece, who is originally from Sheffield and now lives in Manchester having studied Theatre and Performance Practice at Salford University, says the play shares a number of experiences that so many pubs across England suffer today.
“Growing up my dad always used to take me to the pub on match days,” Reece explained. “I have some great memories of going there and seeing everyone we knew.
“Sadly, that pub closed down and not long after a lot of the others followed, it made me think if this keeps happening soon there won’t be any left.
“So this play is my love letter to pubs, I wanted to tell people about the history of these beloved buildings, and to get the community behind supporting their local, wherever that may be.”
