The Great British Bake Off is set to undergo huge changes ahead of its return later this year and will 'go back to basics' after a series of complaints.
Last year, Syabira Yusoff was crowned the winner of the hit Channel 4 baking show, but throughout the series fans protested about various issues on-screen.
Fans took issue with the ‘stereotypical’ Mexican-themed week, bakes which were 'too difficult' including Halloween lantern piñatas and 3D biscuit masks as well as the “mission impossible” time constraints.
A TV insider told The Mirror: “There is a realisation last year’s show didn’t really work. We’re going to strip it back to basics, with a few twists.”
This comes after the boss of Love Productions, which is behind the hit show - insisted he has listened to the concerns of fans and promises to make changes.
TV boss Richard McKerrow said the team were working hard to ensure the 14th season of the popular baking show was back and better than every before airing later this year.
“I’d be the first to hold up our hands and say I feel the last series was not our strongest,” he admitted in The Media Podcast.
“You’ve got to take a look and go, ‘Sh*t, are the challenges too complicated?’. We’re looking very, very, very hard at making sure it’s as good a series as it can be.”
