The Great British Bake Off returned in style on Sunday, as the first episode in a series of celebrity Stand Up To Cancer specials got underway and put four of our favourite stars against each other in the hope of earning the approval of judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. However, mere moments into the show, host Matt Lucas informed fans at home that for this debut edition, sadly his co-host Noel Fielding was not able to join them for the episode, joking it was due to him being a "vampire". While The Great British Bake Off's official Twitter poked fun at Noel's, 49, absence too as they joked about celebrity contestant David Schwimmer, who is best known for his role in US sitcom Friends, being his "replacement".
Sharing a snap of David and Matt with their arms around each other and sporting cheesy grins, they wrote: "Wow, Noel Fielding looks so different with his new haircut!" Fans were clearly tickled by the joke, with several commenting about how the star had made a new "Friend". While one person said: "#GBBO no Noel... missing him but matt is still good on his own!" And a different fan added: "I miss Noel #GBBO" followed by upset emojis.
However, it wasn’t just the show’s teasing that got fans talking, as several fans actually agreed they thought David would make a brilliant host for the popular Channel 4 baking show. “I'm suddenly wishing David Schwimmer was the new #GBBO host. He's an absolute charmer!!!” gushed one fan.
A second also agreed as they added: “David Schwimmer just becoming the host of the show - no complaints.” “David Schwimmer is just the nicest guy and also hilarious. Love!” echoed a third. Before a fourth soon added: “Give David Schwimmer an honorary OBE.
