The Great British Bake Off has officially announced Alison Hammond as Matt Lucas's replacement and fans are over the moon. Sharing the news on social media, the baking competition's official Instagram page quipped that they had "baking news".
"We’re delighted to announce that Alison Hammond will be joining forces with Noel Fielding to host the next series of The Great British Bake Off on @Channel4 later this year," the post read, alongside a snap of This Morning favourite, Alison. "We cannot wait!" they added.
Bake Off fans have since shared their excitement and labelled Alison as the "perfect choice" for the hit Channel 4 programme. Former GBBO star Crystelle Pereira wrote: "THE BEST NEWS!!!!!" alongside three heart emojis, as someone else said: "Alison is the perfect choice!" "OMG!!!!!! This is the best news EVER!!!!!" said another Bake Off fan, as a fourth wrote: "it’s an immediate yes from me." "YESSSS!! BRING ON GBBO 2023!!!" said another excited viewer. The news of Alison joining the Bake Off family comes after Matt, 49, announced in December that he was stepping down from his hosting duties.
"Farewell Bake Off! It's been a delicious experience and I can't imagine a more fun way of spending my summers," he wrote on Twitter at the time. "But it's become clear to me that I can't present both Fantasy Football League and Bake Off alongside all my other projects.
"So, after three series and 51 episodes, I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else." He went on: "I would like to give my warmest thanks and gratitude to everyone at Love Productions and Channel 4 and to Noelipops, Paul, Dame Prue, the crew and, of course, the wonderful bakers for welcoming me into the tent. "I wish whoever takes over the very best
