Strictly Come Dancing star Tyler West missed out on a holiday to Ibiza after being turned away at the airport for not having a valid passport. The radio presenter and DJ, 27, who also appeared on the most recent series of the dancing show, couldn’t make it on his sunny holiday after forgetting to check his travel document properly. Appearing on Lorraine on Wednesday, fill-in host Ranvir Singh told audiences there was a ‘rather unexpected but very welcome guest’ when introducing Tyler.
Asking him to explain exactly why he was on set, he then recalled what had happened during his setback. ‘I was actually meant to be in Ibiza…but I heard you were here today,’ he joked at first. However he went on to explain that his passport had expired and he’ had a ‘little hiccup’ at the airport when ready to jet off.
‘I got denied at the airport and it had three months on it but I didn’t know…and I should be at a pool party right now but I’m here fully clothed’ he said. After a slight telling off from Ranvir, who questioned how Tyler managed to make it all the way to the airport without being aware his passport wasn’t up to date, he said he thought he’d been good to go. ‘I checked in online but when I got to the airport they were like “no you can’t go because you haven’t got three months”,’ he recalled.
‘Do you never watch our travel segments on this show,’ the host then laughed. ‘I’m going to send you the greatest tips of Simon Calder, number one which is check your passport,’ she added. Laughing off his mishap, Tyler said it was fine because he was able to spend time in the studio and had ‘a lot to chat about today’.
