Speaking on Tuesday's forecast, Met Office meteorologist Jonathan Vautrey said: "For the far northeast, some very strong winds for Shetland and Orkney as well with that second front bringing some persistent rainfall."
Severe amber weather warnings are in place across England and Wales until this evening, predicting 80mph gusts in the most affected areas. While Storm Henk is expected to migrate eastwards over Europe by Wednesday, an area of low pressure is set to linger over Scotland.
Mr Vautrey added: "Again some very persistent rainfall for Orkney, Shetland, still with those strong gales around at times as well."
Looking further into the week, the Met Office is predicting a mainly unsettled forecast thanks to a bout of westerly Atlantic conditions. Towards the weekend, there are early signs of higher pressure developing which would settle the weather down and bring a spell of lower temperatures.
