It's no secret that mums can dish out some pretty good advice. Whether its tips they've picked up in life themselves - or ones passed down through the generations, there's always those few sayings she told you as a kid that will stick with you for life.
Some would put the fear of god into you. Like when they told you not to pull a face because it would 'stick like that if the wind changes', or how turning the interior light on in the car was a crime and the police would pull you over and arrest you (one we only realised was a myth recently).
Other advice for bad habits or manners included 'stop picking your nose, your head'll cave in', and the age-old, 'if you haven't got owt nice to say, don't say anything'.

In honour of Mother's Day, we decided to ask our Manchester Evening News' colleagues and people in Manchester city centre and Salford to tell us what their mums used to say (and nag) at them when they were younger. Surprisingly, it's not as annoying to them as it used to be.
A strong one to start from Gabriel in town, who chuckled as he fondly remembered his mother's words. "She would say 'if you don't do well at school you'll work in McDonalds.' I did work in Burger King for a day but that was it."
We bumped into Nicola Nadin in Salford. Her mum's advice is another classic. "When you were a bit frowny she would say 'turn that frown upside down' to make you feel a bit better," she said.
Another came from Jack in town. "She always used to call me 'Rainman'," he said. We questioned why and the response was one that many parents can probably relate to. "Because I would say the same thing over and over again when I wanted something," he told us.
