A popular London chophouse has chosen Manchester for its first site outside the capital. Blacklock, will open its sixth branch on Peter Street this autumn.
The eatery, which is known for cooking a wide range of chops and steaks over charcoal, will open in a Grade II-listed building that was formerly home to a textile merchant. Blacklock has also become well known for its award-winning Sunday roasts, which are billed as 'almost as good as Mum's'.
It comes just a few days after Flat Iron, another hit London restaurant known its 'affordable' steaks confirmed it would be opening its first Manchester restaurant this summer. The chain, which has 12 restaurants in London, will be taking over the site formerly occupied by specialist outdoor clothing brand Blacks.

Blacklock was first launched in a former brothel in Soho in London in 2015, and has since gone to encompass five sites in the capital including its latest on Canary Wharf, which opened last year. The concept was founded by ex-lawyer Gordon Kerr, who has said the new site on Peter Street is the 'perfect' place for their first Northern venture.
The restaurant will take the lower ground space of Harvester House, a Grade II-listed building which dates back to the Victorian era. It was formerly home to a textile merchant and is rich with Mancunian history.
Speaking about the Manchester site, Gordon Kerr said: “It’s long been a dream of mine and the team to open Blacklock in Manchester given its vibrant and bustling culture and brilliant food scene. It’s so important for us to be in buildings with character and history, and this part of Manchester has that in spades.
