Police issue update on arrested M62 driver after 'runaway electric car brought to stop'

A suspect held following a dramatic swoop on an electric Jaguar whose brakes had reportedly failed on the M62 has been released 'pending further enquiries', say police.
Officers from Merseyside and Greater Manchester had to use specialist tactics to ram the Jaguar I-PACE and block it between a number of police vehicles, to eventually bring the car to a stop. Pictures from the scene on March 6 showed the black vehicle wedged in between two Matrix vehicles.
Yesterday, the Manchester Evening Newsreported that a 31-year-old man from Bolton had been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and causing a public nuisance. Today, a spokeswomen for Merseyside Police said: "He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries."

It was previously reported that there were long delays on the motorway between J11 for Birchwood and J12 for Eccles after the police to had to help a driver whose electric car's brakes failed.
In a statement, a Jaguar Land Rover spokesperson told LancsLive: "Following a detailed investigation in partnership with the Merseyside Police and other authorities, we understand an individual has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and causing a public nuisance, relating to the incident on the M62 on Wednesday, March 6th.
"JLR seeks to investigate all reports of issues relating to product safety and will continue to co-operate with Merseyside Police and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency where required."
